The licensing for webEdition
webEdition is licensed with the GNU General Public Licence (GPL) and is an open source software. This means:
- webEdition can be used without limitation for any purpose. This includes commercial use.
- webEdition may be distributed with or without fee, while the source code needs to be distributed as well or on request by the recipient. The recipient has exactly the same rights as the distributor - if you receive webEdition with costs, you have the right to distribute it commercially or for free.
- License fees are not allowed. Nobody is obliged to distribute webEdition. If you decide to distribute it, you can do it only according to these rules.
- The mode of operation of webEdition may be studied and may be adapted to fulfill own needs.
- Changed versions of webEdition may only be distributed following the above rules, where the source code needs to be made available to the recipient. Changed versions don't have to be published, but if they are, they need to be "open source".
